The program of the BES is dealing with present and future challenges in the field of architectural engineering, setting the standards for the students to become
environmentally conscious architects in this era of transitions and climate change.
The main topic of the BES is the sustainable design of the technical aspects of a building through its different scales and domains (construction, climate and
structure), by addressing one specific sustainable topic through the conceptual integration of engineering in the architectural design, and, since 2021, by
explicitly addressing circularity. As resources are scarce and nature is facing depletion, enhancing circularity is becoming an urgent issue especially in the built environment. As architects, we are responsible to make this become part of our daily practice. Through research on circularity, students come to an elaborated position towards the assignment that will be guiding the technical design process.
